چکیده

Skin and mucosal infections constitute recurrent pathologies resulting from either inappropriate antiseptic procedures or a lack of efficacy of antimicrobial products. In this field, nanomaterials offer interesting antimicrobial properties (eg, long-lasting activity; intracellular and tissular penetration) as compared to conventional products. The aim of this work was to produce, by a new solvent-free process, a stable and easily freeze-dryable chlorhexidine-loaded polymeric nanocapsule (CHX-NC) suspension, and then to assess the antimicrobial properties of nanomaterials. The relevance of the process and the physicochemical properties of the CHX-NCs were examined by the assessment of encapsulation efficiency, stability of the nanomaterial suspension after 1 month of storage, and by analysis of granulometry and surface electric charge of nanocapsules. In vitro antimicrobial activities of the CHX-NCs and chlorhexidine digluconate solution were compared by measuring the inhibition diameters of two bacterial strains (Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus) and one fungal strain (Candida albicans) cultured onto appropriate media. Based on the findings of this study, we report a new solvent-free process for the production of nanomaterials exhibiting antimicrobial activity, suitable stability, and easily incorporable as a new ingredient in various pharmaceutical products.

Chitosan-dextran sulphate nanocapsule drug delivery system as an effective therapeutic against intraphagosomal pathogen Salmonella.

OBJECTIVES The ability to target conventional drugs efficiently inside cells to kill intraphagosomal bacteria has been a major hurdle in treatment of infective diseases. We aimed to develop an efficient drug delivery system for combating infection caused by Salmonella, a well-known intracellular and intraphagosomal pathogen. Chitosan-dextran sulphate (CD) nanocapsules were assessed for their ef...

Imipenem/cilastatin encapsulated polymeric nanoparticles for destroying carbapenem-resistant bacterial isolates

BACKGROUND Carbapenem-resistance is an extremely growing medical threat in antibacterial therapy as the incurable resistant strains easily develop a multi-resistance action to other potent antimicrobial agents. Nonetheless, the protective delivery of current antibiotics using nano-carriers opens a tremendous approach in the antimicrobial therapy, allowing the nano-formulated antibiotics to beat...

Multicomponent Solvent-Free Synthesis, Antimicrobial and Antifungal Evaluation of Novel N-Amino Benzylthiolates

Novel N-amino benzylthiolates were synthesized via multicomponent reaction of malononitrile, isothiocyanates and benzyl halides under conventional and solvent-free conditions. Various electron-donating and -withdrawing substitutes within both isothiocyanates and benzyl halides were used to demonstrate the efficiency of new methodology. A broad spectrum of antibacterial and antifungal activities...

Antimicrobial Lemongrass Essential Oil-Copper Ferrite Cellulose Acetate Nanocapsules.

Cellulose acetate (CA) nanoparticles were combined with two antimicrobial agents, namely lemongrass (LG) essential oil and Cu-ferrite nanoparticles. The preparation method of CA nanocapsules (NCs), with the two antimicrobial agents, was based on the nanoprecipitation method using the solvent/anti-solvent technique. Several physical and chemical analyses were performed to characterize the result...

Production of Nanocapsules Using Salvia Leriifolia Leaf Extract and Assessing Effects of the Extract and Nanocapsules Containing the Extract on Microbial Properties in Sausages During the Shelf Life

Background and Objectives: Researches have shown that converting bioactive compounds to nanoscales increases their effectiveness due to their size surface area. Therefore, use of antimicrobial compounds at nanoscales can progress their effectiveness, decreasing their necessary concentrations. Salvia leriifolia, with valuable secondary metabolites such as flavonoids and alkaloids, includes a hig...
